Nigeria's First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called on Afrobeats stars Davido, Burna Boy, and Asake to support the government's efforts to assist underprivileged citizens.
According to a report by Nigeria's Daily Post (DailyPostNGR), she made the appeal on Saturday, July 11, during the launch of the National Community Food Basket initiative in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.
Drawing inspiration from the philanthropic work of Senegalese-American singer Akon, Mrs Tinubu encouraged the three music stars to establish foundations and invest in initiatives that improve the lives of poor Nigerians.
She noted that the challenge of addressing poverty is too great for the Federal Government to handle alone and urged the artistes to channel some of their wealth into charitable causes rather than focusing solely on acquiring luxury vehicles such as Maybachs and Rolls-Royces.
“We have a lot of wealthy people. But our priorities are different. I want to appeal to young ones in the entertainment industry. I’ll use a music icon, Akon, who does a lot of great charity work.
“Asake, Davido, the Burna Boys of this world, and all of them. We want to see you with one foundation or the other, helping the poor with your money.
“The burden on the government is huge. Good cars are good; a Maybach and Rolls-Royce are good, but still you can help”, she stated.
