A police chief inspector stationed in the Ashanti Region is under investigation for allegedly putting up unauthorised wooden structures at Asafo BB and renting them out to commercial sex workers.
In a press statement issued on July 10, the Ashanti Regional Police Command said it takes the allegations serious and assured that further developments on the issue will be communicated.
The investigation follows a claim by the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, that some police officers own unauthorised structures at Asafo which have allegedly been used for prostitution and the sale of illegal drugs.
Mr Boadi made the allegations after a demolition exercise conducted by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Asafo, behind the COCOBOD building.
He said some of the structures demolished during the exercise were allegedly owned by police officers and had been converted into centres for illicit activities.
The KMA has maintained that the demolition exercise forms part of efforts to remove unauthorised structures obstructing waterways and improve access for the desilting of major drains ahead of the rainy season.
