Paintsil to save marriage

Black Stars defender John Paintsil has admitted his marriage is facing some challenges but insists he would not give in to a request by his wife for a divorce.

Instead, he is determined to stay in the marriage and resolve whatever issues have pushed his wife, Mrs  Richlove Paintsil, to the brink.

In an interview with Accra-based Happy FM yesterday in response to  a publication in last Monday’s issue of the Graphic Sports which reported that his wife was seeking divorce over  neglect of his responsibility for the family’s upkeep and alleged infidelity, the South Africa-based player said divorce was out of the question as it would jeopardise the future of their children.

“I’ve told her [Richlove] that there’s no way I’ll end the marriage because our children are at stake and we would jeopardise their future if we separated.

“As for me John Paintsil I’m not ready to agree to a divorce; we’ll stay together until our children are old enough to be on their own. Whatever has gone wrong that she’s unhappy about, we’ll have to talk about it,” he said.

He denied allegations that he had neglected his marital responsibilities and also kept Richlove in the dark about his deal with South Africa Premier League side Santos, as well as put his Trasacco Valley mansion up for sale online.

“Until I left for South Africa there was no serious problem between us,” he revealed.

Nonetheless, the football star revealed that his marriage begun developing cracks following a newspaper publication last year in which he was photographed with a Ghanaian actress. Richlove subsequently accused him of showing disrespect for her.

“Everything was going on well until the newspaper publication after the Nations Cup. But we resolved it before I left for South Africa. Since then our marriage has been on and off, but it’s not the kind of case to lead to a divorce”, he contended.

Throwing more light on their marital problems, Paintsil said his wife had previously issued divorce threats and asked someone purporting to be her lawyer to commence divorce proceedings.

“I told the so-called lawyer I was not ready to discuss any such thing. I’m not ready to leave her.”

“She once told me she had sold my pure water manufacturing machines and that a court had also ordered her to sell my white [Infinity Armada] car.”
