Okine wins Fritz Baffour trophy

Richard Okine, last Saturday defeated Bright Nortey by 6-2, 6-6 to emerge winner of the Fritz Baffour 65th birthday Junior Tennis organised for players in the Under-14 category at the Accra Lawn Tennis Club.

The event, which was sponsored by the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma South Constituency to mark his birthday, witnessed the young tennis star dispatch Aaron Dowuona earlier in the semi-finals beating him 4-1, 4-1 before ending the day with an excellent display against Nortey in the final game.

For his reward, Richard Okine received a cash prize of GH¢200, a golden trophy, a racket with a bag as well as two customised T-Shirts.

The first runner-up, Bright Nortey also took home GH¢150 as cash prize, two tins of balls, a racket and T-Shirt. For their efforts, all the semi-finalists received GH¢100 each and souvenirs.

At the event, Mr Fritz Baffour, who was recently enstooled development chief of Akweiman in the Greater Accra Region under the stool name Nii Ayeh-Boafo I, thanked members of the club for coming to support him mark the day.

He noted that the purpose for putting together the competition was to motivate the juvenile players, especially those who work as ball boys at the club, to improve on their performance during other competitive events.
