The Vice-Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Guan Constituency, Mathias Amuzu, has urged newly elected branch executives of the party to champion the government's flagship "Big Push" infrastructure programme, while intensifying grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2028 general election.
He said the programme was the biggest social intervention ever introduced in the country, stressing that it would create thousands of jobs and accelerate economic growth through massive infrastructure development.
Mr Amuzu gave the advice at the end of the party's branch executive elections held across the Guan Constituency in the Oti Region last Tuesday.
The elections, which lasted six days, saw the successful election of executives for all 50 branches in the constituency.
The elected executives occupy nine positions: chairman, secretary, organiser, treasurer, women's organiser, youth organiser, communications officer and two executive members.
Promote Big Push
Mr Amuzu said the "Big Push" programme, the government's flagship multi-million-dollar infrastructure development initiative, was designed to bridge the country's infrastructure deficit, stimulate long-term economic growth and create sustainable employment opportunities.
He explained that the programme would focus on the rehabilitation and expansion of roads, water systems, energy infrastructure and digital networks to improve socio-economic development.
He, therefore, urged the executives to make the programme a key message in their engagement with party supporters and the electorate.
Mr Amuzu further called on them to intensify efforts to recruit more young people who had attained voting age into the party and work towards securing victory for the NDC in the 2028 general election.
He encouraged the executives to channel their energy into mobilising the youth to support the party's development agenda.
Peaceful exercise
The Oti Regional representative in charge of supervising and monitoring the branch elections, Alhaji Umar Farouq Gyamwodie, described the exercise as peaceful and commended party members for their conduct throughout the elections.
He, however, cautioned the newly elected executives against complacency.
"You should not go to sleep after assuming office.
You must hit the ground running because that is the only way to secure victory in the 2028 elections," he said.
He also underscored the need for unity within the party, saying it remained essential for achieving its electoral objectives.
Swearing-in
The Guan Constituency Secretary of the NDC, Silas Brownson Atikpo, administered the oath of office to the newly elected executives.
He urged them to work closely with the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Fred Kwasi Agbenyo, and the District Chief Executive, Godfried Kofie Dukormevi, to ensure the successful implementation of government policies and programmes in the constituency.
