Assin Krowa to get Internet facility

The government’s one-district, one-factory initiative was given a boost at Assin-Krowa in the Assin District last Friday when a sod was cut for the installation of an internet mast to extend the facility to the community.

The GH¢600,000 facility is a collaboration between the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin South, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, and the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC).

The government has earmarked GH¢456 million as seed capital to support 80 private enterprises approved by the one-district, one-factory secretariat to participate in the implementation of the programme.

Durbar

At a durbar of chiefs and people of the area, Rev. Fordjour said the area had a lot of potential that could be nurtured for the benefit of the people.
He said the Internet could be of an advantage to the farming community, saying: “We have to position ourselves to benefit from the President’s initiatives aimed at improving the lot of our people.”

He said the presence of the facility would help build the knowledge base of the people, enhance the setting up of small businesses such as cocoa, cassava, palm-nut processing factories, stressing that the processing of such foods would help in enhancing agriculture.

“Our people will use the Internet to establish small businesses that would support productivity and we can now extend our development to education, agriculture, sports and other social amenities,” he said.

Gratitude

Rev. Fordjour expressed gratitude in the GIFEC Administrator, Mr Kofi Asante, for his role in ensuring that the initiative was successful and added that “by the end of this year, Assin South will become one of the districts with no communication challenges.”

Mr Asante for his part said his administration was ready to help all districts aimed at keeping the President’s dream alive.

The Assin South District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Derick Owusu Ambrose, who also expressed gratitude to GIFEC, said the facility would help in opening the district to other areas.

He said another major problem confronting the district was the bad road network and added that a case would be made for the road which was in a horrible state to be repaired.
