The event will mark this year’s World Disability Day, offering a platform for the Ghana Tennis Federation Wheelchair Tennis to honor and celebrate individuals with disabilities.
The theme for the 2024 World Disability Day is “Amplifying the Leadership of People with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.”
Organizers have stated that the camp aligns with the ITF Wheelchair Tennis Player Pathway, which seeks to recruit children aged 10 to 18 with physical disabilities. The initiative aims to develop their skills and help them progress to professional levels in wheelchair tennis.
A statement released on Friday, November 28, and signed by the National Coordinator, Henry Larbi said: "The ITF Player Pathway Strategy aligns with the Ghana Tennis Federation's Wheelchair Tennis Committee's new policy, which prioritises education in developing junior wheelchair tennis players."
"This event will introduce wheelchair tennis to new children with disabilities and allow the Ghana Tennis Federation Wheelchair Tennis to compile a database of all junior wheelchair tennis players in Ghana, which will be used to implement targeted interventions and player pathway strategies in 2025," the statement added.
The training camp will be led by Wheelchair Tennis national coaches Yahya Macaulay and Philip Plange, along with regional coaches including Emmanuel Yaw Boateng.
