Maiden Futsal Premier League launched

The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Simeon-Okraku, yesterday launched the maiden Ghana Futsal Premier League with a call on clubs to develop themselves to ensure a successful competition.

To achieve that objective, he urged the clubs to spread their tentacles and invest in other areas of the game.

Mr Simeon-Okraku made these remarks when he joined other officials to officially unveil the Futsal Premier League at the GFA headquarters in Accra yesterday.

He reiterated that the introduction of the futsal league formed part of the FA’s mandate to ignite passion and create wealth for all in the sport.

He revealed that the 16 clubs participating in the novelty league will each receive GH¢10,000 and 10 footballs for training and league matches.

"GFA has invested GH¢183,000 cash in the organisation of the maiden fustal league, aside logistics and kits," he stated.

The GFA president said the zonal winners would clash in the grand final to decide the overall champion.

The historic league, which kicks off on April 22 and 23, is divided into two zones and will be staged at the Lashibi Astro Turf and the Bawaleshie Astro Turf in Accra.

He noted that the GFA referees manager, Mr Alex Kotey, and his men had been working hard on and off the pitch in preparation for the league.

The Chairman of the Futsal League Committee, Nat Markwei Korley, thanked the GFA for its commitment and expressed the hope that Ghana would be among the eight nations which would participate in the next Futsal Cup of Nations in Mozambique.

Present at yesterday’s launch were members of the Futsal League Committee and representatives of the 16 clubs.
