PPP won’t make vain promises — Nduom
The 2016 Presidential Candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, has said it is not in the interest of the party to make vain promises but to show to Ghanaians what the party has done and can do.

He has, therefore, called on Ghanaians to vote massively for him and the party’s parliamentary candidates to advance the fortunes of the country.
In his view, a lot of political parties were making promises they knew they would not be able to accomplish, and cautioned Ghanaians against such parties.
“As a party, it is not in our interest to make vain promises to Ghanaians. Rather, what we have done is to show the way for Ghanaians to see by establishing businesses and companies and employing a lot of Ghanaians in order to contribute to the growth of the nation,” he said.
Dr Nduom stated this when he ended the first round of his Greater Accra Regional campaign tour in Accra yesterday.
He admonished party followers to be more committed towards bringing the party to power this year.
According to him, despite the fact that the party is touting itself as having concrete plans to end Ghana’s challenges through the creation of jobs, it is important for the members to be committed to the dreams to be able to wrest power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“It is clear that the 2016 election is about jobs and the building of a robust economy. Interestingly, the PPP has an enviable track record when it comes to these, but we can only come to power when you all exhibit a sense of commitment towards our dreams,” he said.
Campaign message
Dr Nduom and his team are campaigning on a “Don’t waste your vote on those who have disappointed you” mantra in all areas and constituencies within the Greater Accra Region.
His key message is for Ghanaians to vote for him and the PPP based on their track record.
Wherever he went, Dr Nduom asked Ghanaians to vote for him based on his track record of positive results in the public and private sectors.
He also used the opportunity to introduce the parliamentary candidates in the various constituencies visited and asked the electorate to vote massively for them.
Kokompe workers
On his tour of Darkuman Cable and Wireless and Kokompe, Dr Nduom received cheers and applause from the crowd who kept on referring to him as “Edwumawura.”
He also went from shop to shop to greet the Darkuman Kokompe spare parts dealers and listen to their concerns.
The PPP flag bearer addressed a mini-rally during which he introduced the Parliamentary Candidate for the Okaikoi South Constituency, Ms Anita Abaidoo.
“I can see that people of Darkuman Kokompe are hardworking, so when you give me the power in 2016 to become your President, I will do everything possible to ensure that you get the needed support for your work.”
“Countries like Korea have good leaders who have given the necessary support and economic assistance to its citizens and are doing well in various areas globally today. This is the kind of leadership I want to exhibit with my team when I come to power,” he stated.
Led by Mr Nicholas Agbeyome, the Kokompe Spare Parts Dealers Association also expressed excitement about Dr Nduom’s idea of building a robust economy and the creation of more jobs when given the nod.
“We want good things in this area, so if you will fight for our interests, then we are for you,” he said.
‘Waste vote’
From there, the team headed to the Abossey Okai Saabo Zongo and Glefe and Gbegbeyese, near Dansoman.
At the Abossey Okai Saabo Zongo, Dr Nduom and his team were welcomed by the chief in the area, Alhaji Yahaya Hamisu Bako, and some opinion leaders.
“When they come and tell you that a vote for the PPP is a waste vote, tell them that they have rather wasted your votes for not being able to meet your needs after the huge promises in 2012,” he stressed at a mini rally at the Abossey Okai Saabo Zongo.
Alhaji Bako called on the PPP leader not to abandon Muslims in his administration when he wins power in the 2016 polls.
“There is no Zongo in this country that is too small. So you must endeavour to unite all Muslims and the people of the various Zongos in the country when you come to power,” he charged.
Earlier in a press briefing, Dr Nduom stated that the various visits were all part of the party’s strategies in capturing power in 2016.
“By the first week in October we will come and sit down to analyse where our strengths are within the various districts and constituencies within the country and devise ways to win more votes in such areas,” he said.
The team has since headed to the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and Central regions to begin a nine-day tour of the various districts and constituencies in the regions.
