NPP-USA delegates elect new executives

Delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)-USA Branch will elect new branch executives at the party's 2026 Branch Delegates Conference in Westborough, Massachusetts, from July 24 to 26.

The conference, on the theme: "Rooted in the values of our founders, rising to secure Ghana's future," will bring together delegates from NPP chapters across the United States to elect branch officers and discuss organisational issues ahead of Ghana's 2028 general election.

Election

A statement issued by the Communication and Media Relations Committee of the NPP Massachusetts Chapter said one of the highlights of the conference would be the election of a Branch Chairperson.

The position is being contested by the Chairperson of the Washington Metro Chapter, Janis Asare-Bediako, and the current First Vice-Chairman of the NPP-USA Branch, James Owusu.

Delegates will also elect other branch executives to steer the affairs of the organisation for the next term.

The statement said discussions would focus on strengthening the branch's organisational capacity, deepening grassroots mobilisation across chapters and increasing the participation of members of the Ghanaian diaspora in the activities of the party.

The NPP's 2028 Flagbeaer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is expected to deliver the keynote address. Other speakers include the Acting National Chairman of the party, Danquah Smith Buttey; the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and the Chief of Staff at the Office of the NPP Flagbearer, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

Background

The NPP-USA Branch is made up of recognised chapters across the United States. Each chapter elects delegates to represent it at the branch delegates conference, the branch's highest decision-making body.

The delegates elect the branch's executive officers, who oversee the affairs of the NPP-USA Branch.

The election is separate from the NPP's national executive elections in Ghana, although the diaspora branch forms part of the party's recognised external structures and works with the national leadership to mobilise support and promote the party's programmes.
