Kumasi: 44 arrested as police crack down on alleged network selling ‘Wee Toffee’ and other narcotics to university students

Forty four people have been arrested in a police operation targeting an alleged drug distribution network in the Kumasi Metropolis, with officers recovering suspected narcotics, tramadol, drug infused confectioneries and illegal gambling machines.

The suspects, made up of 41 men and three women, were arrested during raids conducted between July 3 and 5, 2026, by the Inspector General of Police’s Special Operations Team in conjunction with the Ashanti Regional Police Command.

According to a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command on July 7, 2026, the operation targeted known crime prone areas including Emena New Site, Boadi, Abuabo, Ash Town, Kodie, Bremang, Pankrono and Gyinyaase within the Kumasi Metropolis.

Police said the operation led to the recovery of 200 sachets of 225mg tramadol tablets sold under the name “Trama King”, quantities of 250mg tramadol, 400 sealed wraps of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances, and a sealed black polythene bag containing additional dried leaves believed to be narcotics.

Officers also retrieved cannabis infused toffees allegedly being sold to students, a refrigerator containing suspected drug laced local concoctions, locally brewed “Femude” juice believed to have been mixed with narcotic substances, Rizla rolling papers, and nine casino jackpot machines suspected to have been used for illegal gambling activities.

The police said all exhibits have been secured for forensic examination, while the suspects remain in custody assisting with investigations.

The statement said efforts are ongoing to arrest other persons believed to be connected to the network.


Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, signed the statement.

He thanked members of the public for information provided to the police and urged citizens to continue sharing credible information to support law enforcement efforts.
