Firefighters from the Kpando Fire Station of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have recovered the body of a male victim from a flooded drainage channel at Kpando-Gabi in the Kpando Municipality following heavy rainfall on Friday, July 3, 2026.
The incident occurred after heavy rains caused a drainage channel near the Kpando-Gabi M/A JHS to overflow. A distress call was received reporting that an individual had accidentally entered the flooded drainage channel.
A GNFS statement said firefighters promptly proceeded to the scene and conducted a search and recovery operation, which resulted in the recovery of the victim's body.
The body was subsequently handed over to the Ghana Police Service for the necessary investigations and further action.
The Ghana National Fire Service urged the public to avoid crossing flooded drains, streams, and waterways during heavy rains, as floodwaters can be swift, unpredictable, and life-threatening.
