The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has postponed the re-opening of the university for the 2026/2027 academic year indefinitely, citing the ongoing strike action by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
The university had originally scheduled the re-opening for Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
In a press release issued on Friday, October 9, 2026, the university's management said the decision had become necessary in view of the ongoing strike action by the association and its impact on the university's effective operations and administration.
"Students, parents/guardians, and all other stakeholders are kindly advised to take note of this development," the statement said.
Management said it would provide further updates on the revised re-opening date in due course. It expressed regret for any inconvenience the postponement may cause and appreciated the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders.
The statement was signed by Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe, University Relations Officer, for the Registrar.
The postponement follows the strike action by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), which has affected administrative operations across public universities in the country.
