Fast-track investigations into death of paramount chief: Regent of Nanumba appeals

The Regent of the Nanumba Traditional Area in the Northern Region, Nyeliboligu-Naa Yakubu Andani Dasana II, has appealed to the government to fast-track investigations into the death of the Paramount Chief of the area, Naa Dasana Andani.

Two years ago, the Overlord of the Nanumba Traditional Area was murdered by some unknown assailants in his palace at Bimbilla and the government promised to investigate the matter to bring the perpetrators to book but nothing has been heard about the issue.

Naa Dasana made the appeal when the newly appointed Northern Regional Minister, Mr Abdallah Abubakari, and his deputy, Alhaji A.B.A. Fuseini, called on him at his palace at Bimbilla in the Nanumba North District last Saturday as part of the minister’s familiarisation tour of the region.

Mr Abubakari had earlier called on the Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya-Naa Abdulai Andani.

Curfew and development

Naa Andani recalled that the killing of the overlord, who was also his father, had led to the imposition of a curfew on the area and appealed to the government to review the current curfew from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. to enhance commercial activities in the area.

Currently, curfews have been imposed on Bunkpurugu, Gushegu and Bimbilla, all in the Northern Region.

Naa Dasana commended the government for the numerous development projects in the area, especially the construction of the Eastern Corridor road, the community day senior high school, electrification and the rural water projects.

He called on the government to honour its promise of linking Bimbilla to the Eastern Corridor road and the upgrading of the district hospital into a trauma centre to attend to emergencies in and outside the district.

Response

Mr Abubakari, in his response, appealed to the people of the area to use dialogue, instead of violence, to resolve their differences.

He pledged to work with all stakeholders in the region to bring lasting peace to conflict areas there, pointing out that without peace there would not be development.

In Yendi, Kampakuya-Naa Andani appealed to the media to be circumspect in their reportage on the Dagbon chieftaincy crisis in order to help sustain the current peace and tranquillity in the area.

The Kampakuya-Naa, who was not happy with the recent media reportage on Yendi, the seat of the Dagbon State, urged the media to always cross-check their facts before putting out any information on the area.

Mr Abubakari, for his part, called on all residents of the region to continue to exercise restraint and safeguard the relative peace there.
