Akrokerri mourns P.V. Obeng
The people of Akrokerri in the Adansi North district in the Ashanti Region are yet to come to terms with the death of their illustrious son, Mr Paul Victor Obeng.

Almost a week after the sudden death of their relation, business and social activities are yet to pick up .
The chiefs and people of the town are mourning their son and benefactor, who passed away last Saturday.
Silent mourning
The townfolks, who are still observing the ban on noise-making declared by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, could not openly express their emotions for the loss but some could be seen silently weeping.
Abena Afrah, a niece of Mr Obeng, told the Daily Graphic amid tears that "I have lost a great deal following his death. "
According to her, her uncle was all she had and she depended on him for her upkeep.
Apart from the personal benefits Afrah has lost, "the town has also lost one of its benefactors."
PV Fan Club
Anthony Attram, organiser of the PV Fan Club, feared that his demise could lead to the end of the club as well.
He said the club was formed mainly by members of the Catholic community in the area to bring together the youth for communal activities.
He said the youth were impressed with Mr Obeng’s contribution to the community, particularly the Catholic church, and wanted to inculcate the same values in their members.
He appealed to the government to complete the town water project as a tribute to Mr Obeng as that was one of the projects he was working on before his death.
Brentuo Clan
The head of the Brentuo clan of which Mr Obeng was a member , Nana Mensah Begyegyiba, also shared his grief over the loss of their son.
He said the loss would not affect only the family but the whole town and nearby communities.
According to him, just like most Ghanaians, the family heard the news about the death on the radio and sent a delegation to the house in Tema the following day where it was confirmed.
He said since then, things had not been the same for the family.
Nana Begyegyiba said the family would collaborate with the government to ensure that the late Obeng was given a fitting burial.
RCC delegation
In a related development, the deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Yaw Adusei, led a delegation from the Regional Co-ordination Council to console the family of the deceased.
He was accompanied by the Ashanti Regional chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Mr Yaw Obimpeh, and the district chief executives for the Adansi and Amansie districts.
On behalf of the government, Mr Adusei conveyed their condolences to the chiefs and people of the town.
He assured the people and the family of government’s support throughout the mourning period and to give the departed comrade a fitting burial.
He described the late ‘Sir Paul,’ as he was known in government circles, as a walking library due to his vast knowledge of the country's politics.
"His death is a personal loss to me as he was my mentor and had been my personal political advisor
"He thought me most of the things I know in politics, " he said.
As custom demands, the delegation presented two bottles of schnapps, two crates of minerals and beer to the chiefs.
The regent of Akrokerri, Nana Kofi Berchie, who received the delegation,was grateful to them for the courtesy extended to the people and pledged their co-operation with the government to ensure that their son was bid a proper farewell.
Also present at the meeting was the queen of Akrokerri, Nana Serwaa Biriwaa.
