Regional Maritime University matriculates 2 intake batches
The Regional Maritime University (RMU) conducted its 21st and ninth matriculation ceremonies on Friday for the August 2023 and January 2024 intakes.

A total of 946 postgraduate and undergraduate students from member and non-member countries were admitted for the 2023/2024 academic year.
Of these, 554 students, comprising 68 postgraduate and 486 undergraduate students, had completed registration.
Among the registered students, 431 were male and 124 were female.
During the matriculation ceremony, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jethro W. Brooks Jr commended the new students for their efforts in gaining admission to the university.
He assured them of the institution's commitment to providing a conducive environment for learning and improving teaching facilities to support academic excellence.
Notably, the admission of females into sea-faring programmes, such as Nautical Science and Marine Engineering, had increased from 27 to 35 this academic year, reflecting the university's efforts to encourage more women to pursue maritime-related programmes.
Dr Brooks Jr called for government support to establish a special scholarship scheme for young women enrolled in sea-going and marine-related programmes.
New programmes
Furthermore, the RMU introduced new postgraduate and undergraduate programmes, including MSc Coastal Environment Management, MSc Electrical Power Engineering, MSc Safety, Security and Risk Management, and BSc Oceanography and Marine Technology.
These programmes have been assessed by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and will be implemented by the end of the year.
"Four of the programmes, MSc Coastal Environment Management, MSc Electrical Power Engineering, MSc Safety, Security and Risk Management and BSc Oceanography and Marine Technology, have been already assessed by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and would be rolled out by the end of the year," he stated.
Collaboration
The university aims to collaborate closely with industries to provide students with exposure and employment opportunities after graduation.
In his address, Dr Brooks Jr cautioned students against cheating and emphasised the importance of academic integrity, stressing that it was better to retake an exam than to face dismissal or suspension for cheating.
During the ceremony, outstanding students from the previous academic year were recognised and placed on the Dean's List for achieving a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 3.60 or above.
Speaking on behalf of the matriculating students, Deborah Arthur pledged to adhere to the university's rules and regulations and strive for academic excellence.
She expressed her commitment to utilising the facilities provided to enhance learning and avoid any actions that could lead to disciplinary measures.
