Scammers on the loose on social media
Dear Editor, I saw this Prestige Poultry Farms located at Big Ada in the Greater Accra Region on Facebook and I called the number provided 0547258822.
I was sent an invoice and asked to pay before delivery.
I suggested that, since I did not know who I was dealing with, I would prefer to receive the delivery before making payment.
message I got was "We do payment before delivery because we reserve stock for each customer.
For trust, I can send my ID and business licence. Thanks".
I sent the payment to the number 0538286743 and the recipient's name was Evans Dzehumadui. I sent the receipt and his response was "Okay.
Will package your order now". That was on Friday, May 22, 2026, at exactly 9:25 am.
My trouble started on Monday, May 25, 2026; the messages I sent have gone unanswered to this day.
I decided to call the line I sent the mobile money to.
Then lo and behold, Evans picked. I introduced myself and enquired about my order.
He then asked me to resend my receipt for him to verify, which I did.
Then that was when I realised I was dealing with a scammer.
His next response was "Alright. Can you please do me a favour, Madam?”
"Can you please help with 50gh or 100gh?
We have a backup truck that delivers in terms of situations like this. I'll buy fuel for him to bring it either now or tomorrow early in the morning, please".
I expressed my reservations about sending any more money, but he said that was the only option available.
I told him I would send GH¢50. Then, this guy, who had never responded to my calls, started calling me every 30 minutes to check whether I had sent the money.
He even sent me his MoMo account details again, this time in capital letters: ACCOUNT NUMBER: 0538286743. ACCOUNT NAME: EVANS DZEHUMADUI.
The next day, which was Thursday, I sent a message at 12:16 noon. No response. I called.
No response. At 6:15 pm, I sent another message, "Massa, what happened?"
His response was "Please sorry".
"We were busy protecting our birds".
Since then I have not heard fro him again.
