The National Church Choirs’ Union (NCCU) of the Global Evangelical Church has ended its national triennial rally with a call on Ghanaians to put the past behind them.

Rt Rev Dr Edem K. Tettey, Moderator of the church, who made this call in a sermon,  said God had a plan for Ghana and wanted it “to be a star in the world.”

The five-day rally, attended by about 140 choirs of the church, was held at the Tamale Senior High School in Tamale on the theme: “Let your will be done in the life of the Church Choir.”

He appealed to Christians not to allow party politics to destroy the foundation of their faith but join forces, no matter their political affiliations, to work and pray for Ghana.

“It’s a shame for Christians to attack one another because of politics; make unsavoury remarks against each other which should not have been,” he said, adding  Christ died for all to be united.

Rt Rev Dr Tettey commended the choirs of the Global Evangelical Church for their selflessness and dedication, pointing out that the role of the choir in the church “provides a solemn moment for worship.”

He, however, admonished them to lead holy lives, avoid immorality, pride, unforgivingness and strife “to offer to God an acceptable worship.”

Mr Timothy Nortsu, President of NCCU, in his address, said the choice of Tamale in the northern part of the country for this year’s rally was to step up efforts in “fulfilment of the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

He thanked God for the peace in the country after the Supreme Court’s ruling “to prove to the world that we as Ghanaians are peace loving people.”

“We are one people and one nation with a common destiny and a common developmental agenda worth pursuing. Let us, therefore, forget about the past events that can mar the peace and forge ahead to build a formidable nation,” he said.

Rev Moses Simon Lanyo, National Co-ordinator of the National Church Choirs’ Union, urged the choristers to use their singing to “manifest God’s authority” and make an indelible impact on society.

The union presently has a membership of about 3,000 choristers in Ghana and parts of Togo. The next triennial rally of the union will be held at Kpando in the Volta Region.
