Police beat Immigration for Sanford FA Cup final ticket

Holders Police Ladies last Saturday kept their dream of defending the Sanford Women’s FA Cup title on course with a win against Immigration Ladies in their semi-final clash played at the Asamoah Gyan Sports Complex at Accra Academy.

Police Ladies edged rivals, Immigration, out by four goals to three on penalties after the match ended goalless in regulation time.

Having taken turns to beat each other during their National Women’s League (NWL) encounter this season, the semi-final game had a lot at stake as it would earn one side the important ticket to the final and thus set the tone for a very uncompromising encounter.

Indeed, similar to what transpired last season when the two sides clashed at the same stage, they both played with urgency, but the brave goalkeeping from Nana Ama Gyamfua for Police, and Patricia Mantey for Immigration denied each side the needed win.

With the game pushed to penalties, it was always going to be the one with a better goalkeeper and it was Gyamfua who ensured victory for her side when she made two brave saves. Before then, she had momentarily let her side down when she missed their first penalty after she had saved Immigration’s first.

In the end, she held her nerve and helped her side to their second successive final of the tournament.

Before the game Sanford World Clinics (sponsors) held a health screening exercise for the players of the two sides as well as female fans who attended the game.

Today, the other finalist will be known when Prisons Ladies and Ampem Darkoa Ladies clash at the Sunyani Coronation Park.

The game which was to have been played yesterday, was rained off.
