Our ambition is to go to Africa again — Frimpong

Asante Kotoko captain, Amos Frimpong, says his club’s ambition is to win the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Normalisation Committee (NC) special competition in order to represent Ghana in Africa again.

According to him, the playing body has not relented ever since they failed to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals stage and are poised to play in continental competition again.

“Our target, as a playing body, is to work very hard to win the competition.

We, as players, want to represent Ghana in Africa next season and we are focused on achieving our aim.

The experience we had while playing in Africa was great and we want to experience it again”.

Frimpong told the Daily Graphic in an interview.

Further, the 27-year-old eulogised Kotoko’s sensational striker, Abdul Fatawu Safiu, who have scored five goals in five appearances in the ongoing Special Competition.

“Now he (Safiu) has been playing better than his previous days with the team and to have scored five goals in the special competition tells us that he is playing very well and he is a very good player.”

“I hope he continue to work hard and score more goals to make our ambition of winning the competition a reality.

What we have to do now is to give him the needed attention and support to motivate him to do more,” he noted.

The defender further commented on two of Kotoko’s strikers, Dany Zabo and Naby Keita, who have been missing in action in the ongoing special competition.

“Dany Zabo sustained an injury in our first match against Aduana which has kept him on the sidelines and Keita also had an injury while we were playing in Africa.

Fortunately, Keita have started training so we may see him playing soon.”

Kotoko currently occupies the first position in the Northern Zone of the Special Competition with 11 points followed closely by AshantiGold with 10 points.
