Police warn WASSCE candidates against post-exam violence; 6 students arrested in Upper East

The Police have warned final-year students sitting the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) against engaging in violence, vandalism, or any unlawful acts after completing their final paper on Friday, June 19, 2026.

Students who take part in violence, arson, assault, vandalism, or any other criminal act would be arrested and prosecuted, the police warned in a press statement issued on Thursday [June 18, 2026], adding that such offences could have lasting consequences for their future.

The warning followed recent incidents involving students in the Upper East Region, where a total of six students have been arrested over separate acts of violence.

According to the police, two students of Zebilla Senior High Technical School were arrested in connection with an alleged arson involving a teacher's apartment.

Four other students from the Bawku Senior High School have also been arrested in relation to rioting, assault on members of staff and the destruction of school and private property.

The police advised the students to celebrate the end of their examinations peacefully and act within the law.

It also called on parents, guardians, and school authorities to work together to promote discipline, respect for the law and peaceful conduct among students.
