Miledzi pays glowing tribute to Kotey

While paying tribute to the former world champion who passed away last Tuesday in the United States, the 28-year-old undefeated Miledzi said he was shocked by the news and could hardly come to terms with it.

“I am very saddened by his death; he was one of my role models. I learnt a lot of skills from him because he was such a great fighter,” he told the Daily Graphic in an interview in Accra yesterday.

Miledzi’s career
The hard-puncher, who broke into the local boxing scene as a professional boxer three years ago after his years in the amateur ranks, rued the effect the COVID-19 pandemic had had on his blossoming career.

“After victories against African champion Patrice Sou Toke and Commonwealth title contender Ishmael Tetteh, I knocked out Burkinabe Jules Kabore for the West Africa Boxing Union (WABU) super middleweight title, and just as I set eyes on the WBA Pan African title, the virus became my blight,” he lamented.

Clash with Lerrone Richards
The burly fighter said he was targeting a bout with Commonwealth super middleweight title holder Lerrone Richards, and hoped the fight would materialise after the pandemic.

“For the time being, I hope to have local challenges against hard-hitting Daniel Adjei Sowah and tough-talking Oko Nettey,” he revealed.

Gratitude to Landmark Promotions
Miledzi thanked his manager and promoter, Anthony Kermah of Landmark Promotions, for his unflinching support during these hard times.

“I promise to repay him (Kermah) in kind by winning a world title for him in the near future,” he assured.
