The Mfantsipim 150th Anniversary Planning Committee has paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, to formally brief him on the School’s upcoming sesquicentennial celebrations.
The delegation, led by the President of Central Regional branch, MOBA, Kenneth Shelton Aikins was also to seek his blessings, counsel, and support as preparations gather momentum towards this historic milestone.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Dr. Kenneth Shelton Aikins noted that Mfantsipim School, founded on April 3, 1876, attained was celebrating 150 years this year and and highlighted the school’s historic status as Ghana’s first secondary school and its pioneering role in the development of secondary education in Ghana.
He noted that while several activities have already been organised to mark the anniversary, the climax would be the grand durbar on Saturday November 14, 2026.
"As Mfantsipim is proudly located in Cape Coast, we considered it both proper and respectful to first inform the Paramount Chief and his elders about this historic occasion and formally invite them to be part of the celebrations," Dr Aikins said
Dr. Aikins further disclosed that as part of the climax of the Sesquicentennial Celebrations, Mfantsipim would host a special thanksgiving event, dubbed the “Aseda Durbar,” involving the other historic secondary schools in Cape Coast.
Receiving the delegation, the Paramount Chief, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II said it was as an honour and a responsibility he was prepared to undertake in support of Mfantsipim School's historic celebration.
He pledged both his physical and spiritual support towards the successful organisation of the anniversary celebrations and reaffirmed his commitment to the continued growth and development of the institution.
The Headmaster of Mfantsipim School, Ebenezer Aidoo, expressed profound appreciation to Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II for the warm reception, encouragement, and unwavering support shown to the school over the years.
