The Minister of Roads and Highways, Alhaji Amin Amidu Sulemani, who disclosed this in Parliament on Friday, said the two ferries were to help ease traffic and the inconvenience that would be caused to motorists and pedestrians when the Adomi Bridge was closed down for rehabilitation.

According to him, the two ferries were currently being manufactured in the Netherlands.

The Adomi Bridge, which spans over the Volta River in the Eastern Region, would soon be closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic for rehabilitation.

Mr Sulemani told Parliament that the government had secured funding from the Austrian government for the rehabilitation of the bridge.

According to the Minister, Messrs Bilfinger MCE GmbH of Austria had been engaged to undertake the rehabilitation works explaining that the site work would take 22 months.

The Member of Parliament for Ho West, Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, had posed a question to know from the minister when the bridge would be closed down for rehabilitation works to begin.

Mr Sulemani said currently the contractor has mobilised and was undertaking the construction of the site camp located on the west bank upstream of the Adomi Bridge.
