Ghana weather today: Fog, light rain and afternoon storms expected

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMET) has forecast misty conditions and light rainfall across parts of southern Ghana on Tuesday, July 14, while warning that thunderstorms and rain are likely to develop over sections of the transition and northern belts later in the day.

According to the agency's latest 18-hour weather forecast, valid from 6 am, mist and fog patches are expected to form over forested and mountainous areas during the early hours, reducing visibility for motorists and other road users.

GMET said light rain is expected along parts of the coast during the morning, with mostly cloudy skies prevailing across southern Ghana throughout much of the forecast period. Coastal communities, including Accra, Kasoa, Cape Coast, Takoradi, Axim, Aflao, Anloga and Winneba, are expected to experience light showers before conditions remain largely cloudy into the evening.

Inland areas such as Ho, Koforidua, Kumasi, Obuasi, Tarkwa, Goaso and Sunyani are forecast to begin the day under misty conditions, with cloud cover gradually giving way to periods of sunshine in some locations before rain returns later.

The agency expects the northern sector to experience sunny intervals during the afternoon, with temperatures climbing to between 33°C and 36°C across Tamale, Bolgatanga, Nalerigu, Wa and Jirapa. However, thunderstorms accompanied by rain are forecast to develop from late afternoon into the evening across parts of the transition and northern regions, including Kete Krachi, Atebubu, Ejura, Sunyani, Sampa, Yendi and Damongo.

Maximum temperatures are expected to range from 29°C to 32°C across the coast and forest zones, 32°C to 34°C in the transition belt, and up to 36°C in the northern sector. Minimum temperatures will range between 23°C and 26°C nationwide.

GMET has also maintained that sea conditions will remain rough, urging fishers, coastal residents and operators of small vessels to exercise caution.

The agency has advised motorists travelling through forested and hilly areas to remain vigilant during the morning hours, as reduced visibility caused by mist and fog could affect driving conditions. Residents in areas forecast to experience afternoon and evening thunderstorms have also been encouraged to stay alert and monitor weather updates.
