GES to validate appointments of sacked staff

The management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has set up a three-member committee at the regional level to validate teachers whose appointments were revoked last month.

The committee, made up of a regional human resource officer, regional internal auditor and regional accountant, is to validate the process.

Affected staff are, therefore, directed to provide their appointment letters, academic certificates, licensure certificate and national service certificate to support the validation process.

Staff

The affected staff are expected to go through the validation process by March 14, 2025.

This was contained in a circular title: “Re: Revocation of Appointments and Recruitments”, signed by the acting Director-General of the GES, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, to all regional directors of education.

“In reference to our earlier letter dated February 17, 2025, with Reference No. GES/HMRD/REV.25/01 on the above theme, management of the GES request all affected staff to have their recruitment validated and reinstated in order to clean up the database of all recruited staff on the GES payroll,” the circular stated.

It said the service would count on the cooperation of staff to make the exercise a success.

Revocation

The GES, on February 17, 2025, revoked all appointments and recruitments of teaching and non-teaching staff who were yet to be placed on the government payroll.

The decision, which took immediate effect, followed a directive from the Chief of Staff as outlined in a letter dated February 10, 2025.

A statement signed by Prof. Davis said all regional, district, municipal, and metropolitan Directors of Education had been instructed to ensure strict compliance with the directive.

It said the affected personnel whose recruitment had been revoked would not be placed on the payroll, effectively nullifying their appointments.

It said any further directives on the matter would be communicated in due course.

Holiday for schools

Meanwhile, the GES has declared today a holiday for all schoolchildren in Ghana.

The decision is to provide learners with a well-deserved break after their preparations for and participation in the Independence Day anniversary activities, the GES announced.

In a statement signed by the Head of the Public Relations Unit, Cassandra Twum Ampofo, the GES said schools would resume fully on Monday, March 10, 2025.

“Parents and guardians are kindly requested to take note of this announcement.

“We regret any inconvenience this may cause,” the statement added.
