Garden City University (GCU), Kenyase, in collaboration with its international partner, James Madison University (JMU) from Virginia, USA, has donated a defibrillator to the Emergency Unit of Manhyia Government Hospital, Kumasi.
The donation resulted from the annual student exchange programme between the two universities.
During this year's clinical placements in selected hospitals in Kumasi, JMU students observed that the hospital's Emergency Unit lacked a defibrillator: a critical device used in managing cardiac emergencies.
Response
In response, James Madison University procured the equipment, valued at GH¢26,000, to support emergency healthcare delivery at the hospital.
The defibrillator was officially presented to the hospital's management on Thursday, June 25, 2026.
Present at the presentation were the Head of the Department of Nursing and Midwifery at GCU, Dr Ramatu Agambire; lecturers and clinical coordinators from the department; a representative from the Office of International Affairs, Dr Jemima Antwi-Agyei; and nursing students.
Hospital
Receiving the donation on behalf of the hospital, Dr Bernard A. Akoto expressed heartfelt appreciation to both universities for the timely intervention.
He acknowledged the long-standing partnership between GCU and Manhyia Government Hospital, noting that the collaboration has significantly contributed to healthcare delivery, clinical training and professional development over the years.
He added that the defibrillator would strengthen the hospital's capacity to respond to medical emergencies.
