The organisations are Ghana Developing Communities Association which received €108,000 to improve households income for poor and deprived women in Tamale; the Global Habitat for Homeless, €61,294 to assist the young, particularly women farmers in the coastal savanna areas, and the Rural Aid Alliance Foundation, which received €29,220 to improve the well-being of 120 HIV-infected women.

A statement issued by FSD in Accra said the financial support was intended to deepen the roles of the organisations in poverty alleviation programmes.

After financial agreeements in respect of the package had been signed between the fund and representatives of the civil society organisations, the French Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Frederic Clavier, presented the first instalment of the package to the organisations.

The French co-operation in Ghana since 1999 has been supporting civil society-driven initiatives through FSD.

So far, more than 502 micro projects in rural and urban areas have benefited from similar French assistance.
