In a statement issued in Accra yesterday, Star Ghana said it was supporting a nationwide intervention by selected Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and the National Commission on Civic Education targeted at enhancing national cohesion and preventing violence before and after  the Supreme Court ruling on the election petition, as part of its efforts to deepen Ghana’s democratic governance and promote peace and national unity.

The programme, to be carried out through 51 selected civil society organisations, including the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), is part of the efforts to deepen Ghana’s democratic governance and promote peace and unity.

A statement issued by STAR-Ghana also said the intervention would last for three months, from July to September, and cost about $400,000.  It will  complement the efforts of state institutions and other stakeholders to promote peace in Ghana.

The statement also said during the 2012 general election, STAR-Ghana supported 51 CSOs and media organisations to implement actions aimed at contributing to a peaceful and credible general election and transition to the next government.
