Accra Academy old students contribute to Endowment Fund

A group of old students and sympathisers of the Accra Academy Senior High School (Bleoobii), the Bleoo Legacy Fundraising Initiative (BLFI), have contributed GH¢ 10,000 to the school’s endowment fund.

The fund, which was launched last year, is aimed at building a 64-unit apartment for staff, expected to be completed within four years.

The donation took place at a brief ceremony held yesterday on the school’s premises in Accra.

It is expected that through the BLFI, Accra Academy's dependence on internally generated funds for the rental of facilities and cost of maintenance would reduce so that the school’s management would be able to plan strategically to meet future expenditures.

Interests

The Trustee and Legal Advisor of the BLFI, Laud Senanu, who represented the group, stated that the donation was the interest accrued from its strategic financial investments in support of the Staff Flat project which is expected to provide the needed accommodation to housemasters on campus.

He added that even though the initiative got off to a slow start because it was relatively new, he was hopeful that such a gesture would encourage more “Old Boys” to start giving more towards the betterment of their alma mater.

“As and when the endowment fund brings up or notifies Bleoobii about other projects that they have, the board will take a decision on how to support that project as well,” Mr Senanu added.

The Secretary of the Endowment Fund, Nii Quansah Abbey Ashong, who received the cheque, expressed his gratitude to the BLFI and said at a time so many schools were competing for funds from the same resources, there was the need to financially support the school to compete favourably in every aspect and not just academic.

The Domestic Headmaster of the School, William Asun, called on the two bodies to always collaborate in order to smoothen their operations, generate higher interests from their collective investments and better provide the necessary support for their alma mater.

The President of the Old Boys Association, Kofi Amoa-Awuah, said the only group that would permanently have the interest of Accra Academy at heart were the old students, so it was a moral obligation to consistently try and support the school.
