The Bono East Police Command has arrested a driver and five other persons who allegedly conspired to rob his car owner of a GH¢300,000 cash between Portor and Gurumpe on the Kintampo-Buipe Highway.
All six suspects - Abdul Sadat Ali, 24; Samad Issahaka, 24; Abdul Rahman Mashud, 21; Asigri Avoka, 25; Awini Stephen, 19 and Faisal Salifu, 26, have been detained and are assisting the police with investigations.
“A search conducted on the suspects led to the retrieval of the GH₵ 300,000.00 robbed from the victim,” a police report by the Bono East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Shaibu A. Sadique-Osei, said.
It said on July 19, 2026 at about 2030 hours, police personnel on duty at the Portor Police Barrier under the Kintampo Police Division received intelligence that a robbery was in progress a few meters away from the Barrier on the Portor-Gurumpe Highway.
A team of Police personnel, it said were swiftly responded and moved to the robbery scene and on arrival, about four suspects fled into the bush.
“However, the team arrested Abdul Sadat Ali, age 24 years, driver of a Toyota Voxy with registration No. AS 1541-25.
“During preliminary interrogation, the driver mentioned Samad Issahaka, age 24, driver of a Kia Rhino No. AS 7337-23, as part of the robbery gang,” it said and that “Police arrested him accordingly”.
The report said further investigations revealed that Yahaya Seidu, age 35, owner of the Kia Rhino, had instructed his driver to convey him to Buipe to purchase cattle.
“The driver, knowing his boss was carrying money, conspired with five others to rob them on the highway. Armed with a toy pistol, the suspects trailed the Kia Rhino and its occupants, caught up with them after the Portor Police Barrier, and robbed them of GH₵ 300,000.00 in cash.
“Police Counter Terrorism personnel together with the local Police Patrol team pursued the fleeing suspects into the bush and arrested all four suspects, namely Abdul Rahman Mashud, age 21, Asigri Avoka, age 25, Awini Stephen age 19, Faisal Salifu age 26,” it said.
During interrogation, it said the suspects admitted they trailed the Kia Rhino from Offinso in the Ashanti Region and carried out the robbery at Portor in the Bono East Region after they had been hinted by suspect Samed Issahaka.
“The Ghana Police Service commends the alertness and professionalism of the personnel on duty, as well as the Counter Terrorism team for their support in effecting the arrests and assures the Public of our continued commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all persons and property within the Bono East Region,” it emphasised.
