Female teachers encouraged to embrace potential

The 7th edition of the Women in the Classroom Conference was held last Friday to empower female teachers.

It was organised by the Youngsters and Teachers Hub in collaboration with the Yilo Krobo Municipality chapter of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) on the theme; “Becoming.”

Held at the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) in Somanya, the conference featured speakers and dignitaries who inspired, educated and motivated the participants.

They included the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Global Sky Limited and Novalle Ebullience Limited, Mavis A. Leonards; the Chief Executive Officer of ICS Africa, Emmaline Datey the Principal of TUCEE Institute of Counselling, Dr Cecilia Tutu Danquah; and the Commercial Director, Angel Broadcasting Network, Barbara Dede Sedode.

Inspiration

Taking their turn, they each encouraged participants to embrace their potential fearlessly.

A Consultant, HR & Leadership Development, Dr Stella Agyenim-Boateng, in her keynote address, emphasised the importance of discipline and optimism for a brighter future, and  motivated participants to overcome challenges and pursue their aspirations.

Dr Tutu-Danquah, who was the guest speaker, highlighted the crucial role of mental health in the learning process and emphasised the need for a supportive environment.

Crucial role

The National Vice-President of GNAT, Lucy Amanda Asamoah, in sharing her perspective during the panel discussion acknowledged the crucial role women played in shaping the future of education and society, and reiterated the organisation’s commitment to positively impact them.

One of the highlights of the conference was the recognition of 60 exceptional female teachers who were awarded citations for their dedication and hard work in shaping the minds of the younger generation.
