Winning Miss Malaika is a dream come true — Pearl

For 25-year-old Pearl Nyarko-Mensah, being crowned Miss Malaika 2017 is certainly a dream come true because she aimed for the crown once she entered the competition.

“I knew I stood the chance. That night, I knew it was between Vanessa and I. She emerged first runner-up. When my name was mentioned, I felt great and the thought that went through my mind was, Oh God, I can’t believe my dream has finally become a reality,” she told Showbiz last Tuesday.

On why she entered the competition in the first place, Pearl said, “I wanted a platform so I could reach out to the youth, again, the passion I had for autism took me there because I wanted an opportunity to support children living with autism,” she said.

Now that she has won the ultimate, Pearl says she will create awareness and also have a meeting with parents who have autistic children, “I will be providing resources to the autistic kids to make life better for them.”

Recounting some exciting moments during the competition, Pearl mentioned the charity bit, “the fact that we were able to raise funds to support children at the Royal Seeds Home was very fulfilling for me and I enjoyed every bit of it,“ she said.

She also recalled their meeting with KiDi, Adina and Fela Nuna as very exciting, “ it was very exciting and we had so much fun,” she said.
Pearl, who is currently reading Family and Consumer Sciences at the University of Ghana, Legon says her celebrity crush is Yvonne Nelson and she has a lot of admiration for her, “She is hardworking, she is a go-getter and she follows her dreams.”

Pearl is currently single and not searching, “I recently got out of one so for now, I would like to concentrate on my Malaika project, going into another relationship can probably come later,” she said with a smile.

Her hobbies are listening to music, watching movies and hanging out with family and friends.

The beauty queen had a piece of advice for the youth, “ Be yourselves, believe in who you are and be confident, it is never too late to pursue your dreams, just follow your passion,” she said.

She was full of gratitude to all those who have been supportive of her especially her parents and siblings, her department at the University of Ghana especially Dr. Nii Lante Amissah, Views.6 Media and all her fans and loved ones.
