Project Maji opens third water facility
Project Maji, a non-governmental organisation committed to the provision of sustainable and affordable potable water, has opened its third water facility in the country at Adum Dominase in the Western Region, to provide the over 4,000 residents with potable water.

The US$ 50,000 facility, undertaken in partnership with Shalina Healthcare, will provide the village with about 10,000 litres of clean water daily at a nominal cost.
The entire amount, to be raised from the sale of the water, is to be saved for the operation and maintenance of the facility throughout its lifespan.
The plant, which was solely funded by Shalina Healthcare, uses solar powered technology to pump and filter the water which makes it durable, environmentally friendly and run at an extremely low cost.
The Chief Executive Officer of Project Maji, Mr Sunil Lalvani, said: “With each new location, we are learning and improving for the benefit of the people we serve. This is the biggest population we have reached so far and our goal is to continue growing and expanding to make a noticeable impact into the acceptable issue of water poverty across Africa.”
Core goal
He said it was also a core goal of Project Maji not to only provide and install water plants, but also to maintain them and added that sustainability in all aspects was central to its mission.
Mr Lalvani also expressed gratitude to Shalina for its immense support, saying it would have been impossible to make progress without the generosity and goodwill of such corporate entities.
The Member of Parliament for Mpohor, Mr Alex Kofi Agyekum, also urged members of the community to pay for the water they fetched from the facility to maintain it, but cautioned against charging of exorbitant fees.
The Chief of Adum Dominase, Nana Adisa, appealed to investors to invest in the area, and expressed optimism that increased investments in the community would create employment and reduce poverty levels in the community.
