Foreigners urged to leverage Ghana’s investment opportunities
A Deputy Minister of Energy, Herbert Krapah, has called on foreign investors to leverage Ghana's investor-friendly opportunities as offered under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to boost economic relations.

Specifically referring to Peruvian businesses, he said “We invite Peruvian businesses to leverage on Ghana’s unimpeachable credentials of a thriving rule of law, peace, political stability and investor-friendly policies, as well as the opportunities offered by the AfCFTA, to boost Peru’s economic relations and partnerships with Ghana and the African continent.”
He said Ghana and Peru share very strong bonds of friendship and cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels, which date back to 1987 and have been taken to new heights with the establishment of the Embassy of Peru in Ghana on October 1, 2014.
“Our bilateral relations over the past 36 years have been anchored on common values and mutual respect, together with our commitment to democracy, good and accountable governance, rule of law and respect for human rights; and our people, both here in Ghana and Peru, expect nothing less than a continued deepening of this friendship, which we so beautifully share,” the minister said.
Mr Krapah made the call at the celebration of the 202nd anniversary of the independence of Peru in Accra last Thursday.
He said the government believed strongly that increased trade and investment, and industrialisation were necessary for Ghana’s accelerated development and economic growth, evidenced by playing host to the AfCFTA Secretariat in Accra.
He expressed the hope that the coming years will herald a period of closer relations and increased cooperation between Ghanaian and Peruvian private and public sector institutions, for the social and economic advancement of the two countries.
“Our bilateral relations have been characterised by these commitments, translating into fruitful partnerships and cooperation in education, agriculture, sanitation, trade and food security,” he added.
Deepening relations
The Peruvian Head of Mission, Abel Antonio Cardenas Tuppia, said the celebration represented a good opportunity to reaffirm the democratic values shared between Peru and Ghana, not just as part of the internal policies in both countries, but also the foreign policies.
“These common values are the basis of the friendship and good relations between our two countries,” he said.
He said the Embassy of Peru, since its opening in October 2014, based on its common interest, has been trying to strengthen bilateral relations with Ghana.
Mr Tuppia said in September, the two countries will be signing the first international agreement for the creation of a mechanism of political consultations.
This agreement, he said, will help both countries to review the situation of their bilateral relations every two years, and mark the starting point of a closer relationship that will lead the two through the path of a stronger international cooperation for development.
According to him, “To achieve our common goal in development, it is important to make the best out of the opportunities and resources we have.
For his part, the Honorary Consul, Ghassan Yared, indicated that Peru is a nation rich in culture with creative people, beautiful tourist sites, amazing food and an economy right for investment opportunities in various sectors like agriculture, gastronomy, tourism and commerce.
“Therefore, we will continue to showcase strides and uphold a continuous duty to deepen relations between Ghana and Peru,” he added.
