Wakaso replaces Essien at Panathinaikos

The journey continues for Mubarak Wakaso as he strives to make a breakthrough in his football career, with Greek’s Panathinaikos his latest destination.

The Ghanaian international last Friday completed his move from Russian side, Rubin Kazan to sign a three-year deal with Panathinaikos, after passing a the medicals in Athens.

Panathinaikos confirmed that the 26-year-old midfielder  will be at the club until the “summer of 2019.”

The left-footed midfielder’s arrival in Athens comes just weeks after the club released his compatriot, Michael Essien, who failed to make a mark in his first season with the Greek giants

Wakaso had been with Rubin Kazan since 2013, but spent periods on loan at both Celtic and Las Palmas during that time.

Last season Wakaso played a total of 22 league games for Spanish side Las Palmas and scored a goal in La Liga.

With experience of having played for Espanyol, Elche, Villarreal and Celtic, the Ghanaian is expected to boost Panathinaikos as they look to reclaim their glory days both on the domestic scene and in Europe.
