PAAG outlines roadmap for athletics

The president of the Past Athletes Association of Ghana (PAAG), Andrew Agbo Kitcher, has outlined a detailed roadmap for athletics next year.
He said the programme, which will be implemented in tandem with the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), is expected to make the sport more popular among the youth.

According to him the PAAG will organise a special national sports festival for grass-roots talents, while seeking sponsorship for them to develop further.

“We are also forming clubs, athletics clubs for athletes in various parts of the Greater Accra Region and its environs and currently the Teshie Club is in vogue, while Osu, La and Nungua are in the pipeline,” he said.

He told this paper that with respect to the coaching problems bedeviling the sport, his outfit would organise practical coaching schools for would - be coaches and the current coaching staff to upgrade and hone their skills.

The former 100m and 200m national star said the PAAG would in March next year organise a national marathon to tap more long distance talents.

He, therefore, called for a national consensus to develop athletics in the country.
