Parliament partners Junior Graphic to launch series on governance
Parliament has partnered with Junior Graphic to launch an educational series known as ‘Parliament and You’ aimed at providing parliamentary education for young citizens across the country.
Launching the event in Accra on Tuesday (June 9, 2026), the first Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, said the initiative formed part of Parliament’s efforts to deepen democratic governance in the country.
The Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, indicated that over the years, the Parliamentary Services through the Public Engagements Department (PED) had undertaken several initiatives such as public education programmes, community outreaches, social media engagements, townhall meetings, among others, to strengthen the relationship between the citizenry and Parliament.
However, he stated that citizens particularly children remained unfamiliar with how parliament worked and how to engage effectively with democratic institutions.
Mr Djietror stated that the ‘Parliament and You’ was one practical response to make parliamentary information more accessible, understandable and available.
“It is a child-friendly platform for young people to gain a practical understanding of parliament in a way that is engaging, relatable, educational and enjoyable,” he said.
The Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Ltd (GCGL), Ato Afful, the GCGL continues to support initiatives as ‘Parliament and You’ with information that readers could trust, make informed decisions with, and set the national agenda.
The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, pledged his side’s support of the initiative, saying they welcomed all efforts that built parliamentary democracy, stating that there was a need to build a coalition of citizens who would defend Parliament and democracy any day if it was challenged.
The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, commended the PED for the bold initiative, saying the Minority stood fully behind it.
The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, who is also a Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, urged children to see the initiative as a learning process and take it seriously.
He pledged the Ministry’s commitment to support the initiative with computers to ensure its success.
