According to him, the timely return of a junior tennis championship, which had been absent from the GTF calendar for over 10 years, would serve as the breeding ground for the next generation of tennis world-class stars to emerge from Ghana.

Tracy Ampah won the Girls U-12 title, while Aleona Ankrah (Girls U-14), Mariama Ibrahim (Girls U-16), Lameck Bagerbaseh (Boys U-12), Bright Nortey (Boys U-14) and Aaron Asante (Boys U-16) all emerged winners of the week-long competition held at the Accra Sports Stadium tennis courts.

"A lot of talents have been unearthed and the future looks very bright. There is no shortcut to success to developing high-level tennis players but thankfully over the last one-week we have identified lots of materials for the future," Mr Duah told the Graphic Sports in an interview.

"We need to give these young ones a push so they can progress to another level, replace their seniors and surpass their achievements in tennis.

"The last time we had a player in the top 300 of world tennis, we had a competition like this. This is why we are hopeful of such a transition."

The McDan Junior Champ, the GTF boss added, served as a preparation stage for some players who will represent Ghana at the African Junior Championship which starts on September 9.
