Kwasi Appiah to return to Black Stars job?
Former Black Stars captain and coach, James Kwasi Appiah, could be returning to the job he quit over two years ago if the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) has its way following strong indications that he is the favourite of the ministry among the list of applicants to replace Avram Grant.

However, while there is no confirmation by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) about the list of applicants for the Stars vacant job, a credible source told the Graphic Sports at the weekend that Kwasi Appiah, now with Sudan’s Al Khartoum, was among the list of applicants likely to be made known this week.
But as the date for the submission of applications closed last Friday, it was not clear if Appiah was among the list, believed to include Abdul Razak and Bashir Hayford, as the GFA search committee kept a tight lip on the list of applicants.
In spite of the speculations, Graphic Sports unimpeachable source, did confirm that Appiah, indeed, beat the deadline and had put in his application.
Also confirmed to be on the list of applicants was Englishman, Harry Redknapp.
While there has been a strong support in other quarters for Marcel Desailly to take up the job, the Ghana-born former France international has, however, been mute over his application.
The GFA’s six-member search committee appears set to meet this week to consider the applications.
Meanwhile, the MOYS had also confirmed to the Graphic Sports that it would prefer to have a local coach to handle the Black Stars.
Appiah, who served as an assistant to three foreign coaches of the Stars, was finally appointed the substantive coach in 2012 when Goran Stevanovic left.
He led the Stars to the 2013 African Cup of Nations, as well as the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, but his contract was not extended when it expired in 2015, and was replaced by Israeli Grant.
