Amefu calls for interim taekwondo body

One of the two persons currently battling in court for positions in both the Ghana Taekwondo Association and the Greater Accra Taekwondo Association (GATA), Master Norbert Amefu, has called on the National Sports Authority (NSA) to form an interim body to steer the affairs of the national association until the issue is finally resolved.

According to Master Amefu, the four-year term of the current national executives had expired, and that an injunction had been placed on the members, preventing them from holding an election until the determination of the case.

He said taekwondo activities in the region had come to a standstill due to the persistent litigation over the leadership of the body, particularly in the Greater Accra Region, and that an interim body put together by the NSA will revive actitvities in the sport. The feuding parties have been in court for over two years.

Amefu also hinted that he would move for an injunction to be placed on any activity of the national federation if they continue to hold themselves as national executives.

“I love taekwondo and want its rapid growth and development in the region and in the entire country, and I don’t see why the court cases over who should lead the bodies, should stall activities of the game in the Greater Accra Region in particular,” he told the Daily Graphic after an Accra High Court adjourned to April 8 a matter involving the rightful chairman of Greater Accra Taekwondo.

The adjournment was occasioned by the ill health of the sitting judge, Justice E.K. Mensah, who is currently on sick leave.

Master Amefu and three others, namely Cynthia Dotse, Divine Kpodoh and Adjei Kofi Da-Silviera have sued D.S.P Agbodekah, current chairman of the GATA, and three others - David Adjetey, Gideon Tetteh and Terrance Asare - over who should be the legitimate leader of GATA.
