Ghana Premier League has no title sponsor yet — Nyantakyi

The president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, says his outfit has still not secured a headline sponsor of the Premier League yet.

Mr Nyantakyi, however, explained that there are ongoing negotiations with some interested sponsors who want to come on board but no deal has been concluded with any company to become the title sponsor of the country's top-flight league.

The nation's elite league has been without a sponsor since First Capital Bank pulled out as the Headline Sponsor midstream three years ago.

Premier League clubs have been complaining about the lack of sponsorship for the competition, with most of them finding it difficult to financially cater for their teams throughout the campaign.

There have been speculations that the GFA has reached an agreement with a new sponsor whom it plans to unveil before the commencement of the league.

In an interview with the Graphic Sports last Wednesday, Mr Nyantakyi noted that the association was bent on ending the financial headache of the clubs by securing sponsorship for the league.

"We have not had any agreement with any company to sponsor the Premier League yet but we are still in negotiations with interested parties and are looking forward to finalising a deal as soon as possible.

"The teams are really suffering financially and the association is looking forward to ending that so that we can have a headline sponsor to cater for some of their needs," he said.
