The Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) says it will offer all amateur fighters in the country the opportunity to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris next year.

President of the GBF, Bernard Quartey told Graphic Sports that his outfit would organise a National Individual Championships to select deserving fighters for the Olympic qualifiers.

Quartey explained that every boxer who wants to have a chance at participating in the Paris Games must be ready to earn a slot in the Black Bombers team.

“We are working tirelessly with the technical team of the Black Bombers to have a National Individual Championship to select fighters for the continental qualifiers for the Olympics next year.

“That is how it is done and we are going to ensure that we present only deserving boxers at the Olympics to be able to return home with medals,” Quartey told Graphic Sports.

The decision means amateur fighters Joseph Commey, Abraham Mensah and Abdul Wahid Omar must justify their inclusion by qualifying from the National Individual Championships to the African qualifiers.

Commey and Mensah won silver with Wahud Omar finishing with a bronze at last year’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The trio are expected to lead the nation’s quest to win boxing medals in Paris when the Olympics starts from July 26 to August 11 next year.
