Exchequers of Bank of Ghana won the top prize and bragging rights of the 2022 Ghana Hockey Gala when they defeated Royal Men of Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) 2-0 on penalties in the grand final after a goalless draw in regulation time last Saturday.

Elikem Akaba and Francis Tettey’s goals earned Exchequers the trophy after the two sides turned the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium in Accra into a battle ground that saw many hockey fans converge on the venue to witness the fireworks.

The competition was a prelude to the National Hockey League which begins on May 5 to select a team to represent Ghana at the Africa Cup for Club Champions tournament.

Moments after winning the trophy, players and officials of Exchequers turned the stadium into a dancing floor to entertain their supporters who applauded them in

On their way to the final, Exchequers accounted for Legonites by a lone goal, before dismissing Arkmen 2-0.

In their match against Police Men, the two sides fought fiercely before Exchequers won 2-0 on penalties through goals by skipper Elikim Akaba and nimble-footed Emmanuel Quansah.

For their part, GRA Men defeated Reformers of Prisons, overpowered Armed Forces in their second match and defeated University of Ghana to meet Exchequers in the finale.
