Officials of German soccer agency, DLT Sports Management, are due to arrive in the country on September 6 to content a new partnership deal with premiership side New Edubiase United. The trip which coincides with the Black Stars’ crucial World Cup qualifier against Zambia will afford the Germans an opportunity to get firsthand information on the Ghanaian club following preliminary discussions with the president of New Edubiase, Abdul Salm Yakubu, in Hamburg last month.
Abdul Salam, who disclosed this to the Graphic Sports yesterday, said the forthcoming visit would see their new partners inspecting New Edubiase players and facilities, leading to the signing of a five-year partnership agreement to market the club’s players in Europe.
He explained that as part of the agreement, DLT Sports Management would send five New Edubiase players to some selected Scandinavian countries every season for further grooming en route to future transfers to other parts of Europe and elsewhere.
According to him, DLT will fly down a technical team to scout for the players and prepared them for the European market, as well as assist New Edubiase coaches in the technical direction of the club.
Abdul Salam was invited to Hamburg early last month by DLT Sports Management for initial talks towards a possible business partnership with the former FA Cup champions who represented Ghana in the CAF Confederation Cup last year.
The bankroller of the Bekwai-based club also disclosed that negotiations were ongoing towards the signing of a sponsorship deal with mobile phone company, Telefonika, in the coming days.
Meanwhile, New Edubiase midfielder Asiedu Atobrah has just signed a six-month loan contract with American side, Columbus Crew of Ohio, beginning January 2014.
The move ended Asante Kotoko’s dream of securing the player for the coming season, despite concluding a deal with Edubiase management for central defender Abeiku Ainooson.
Abdul Salam said though the club had also loaned Black Satellites midfielder, Ebenezer Ofori, to Swedish side AIK Stockholm for a one-year period, it had secured the services of Berekum Chelsea’s Awudu Nafiu and free agent Bernard Don Bortey.
