He described the two goals they conceded against Mexico as avoidable and was looking forward to his players not repeating them again so they can walk away with a good result.
“The two goals we gave away we thought were avoidable and if we are able to avoid them to take the opportunities then maybe we come out of the game as not being the better team but what we regard as probably a good result”, he told the GFAonline in an interview.
Analysing the team’s performance against Mexico, the 64-year-old former Tottenham boss said the team had a good first half but was happy with how the team build-up from the back.
“If I look at the proportion of the game and of course the game is always judged and gauged on in possession and out of possession. Particularly in the first half period our work out of possession was good. I thought we built well from the back in the first half period, and we had some opportunities”, the coach noted.
He identified some weaknesses in the team including their ability to penetrate in the third half of the pitch and said they need to work on them to improve.
“To have that opportunities it means you need to penetrate a team and generally there are two ways to penetrate. It’s either you’re working through the third or runs behind and these are the two areas where we need to do better to make sure we are in the game with the amount of the opportunities that allow us to win football matches.
“And I think against Mexico even though our first half performance was a decent performance over the ninety minutes we were not a big enough threat in their goal and that what have to change”, he stated.
