The French squad secured a decisive victory over the Swedes at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Kylian Mbappé and Bradley Barcola both found the back of the net to seal the win, putting a final end to Sweden's campaign in the tournament.
With its 3-0 loss to France Tuesday June 30, the Swedish national soccer team has now been eliminated from the 2026 World Cup.
Sweden had advanced out of Group F with 4 points, even though it had finished third, behind the Netherlands and Japan. The Blue and Yellow, however, were ranked second among third-place teams and clinched a berth to the knockout rounds.
The defeat comes eight years after Sweden had advanced to the quarterfinals at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, its last appearance in the tournament. Back then, Sweden was eliminated after it lost to England, 2-0.
Here are the teams through to the round of 16. Additional teams will advance as games are played throughout the week.
