Australia visa fraud: GOC sets up 3-man committee

The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has instituted a three-member Disciplinary/Grievance/ Dispute Resolution Committee to investigate matters arising from Ghana's participation at the 2018 Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast, Australia.

Ghana's participation at the games was marred by visa fraud that led to over 50 Ghanaians being deported, as well as strike by athletes who demanded payment of their per diems, culminating in a disastrous outing on the international front.

The unfortunate happenings led to a full-scale investigation by the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service, but the GOC is seeking to delve into what transpired at the games by setting a three-member Disciplinary/Grievance/ Dispute Resolution Committee with Justice Tanko Amadu (chairman), Peter Kpordugbe (member)and Gifty Annan-Myers (member).

A statement signed by General Secretary of GOC, Mr Richard Akpokavie, said; "The GOC and the Commonwealth Games Association of Ghana are investigating matters relating to the participation of Ghana at the Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast, Australia.

"Any person who wishes to appear before the GOC Disciplinary/Grievance/ Dispute Resolution Committee may first submit a written statement to the Secretary-General of the GOC on or before July 16, 2018, between the hours of 8:30 am to 3:00 pm on the first floor Liberation Towers, Ridge Roundabout.

"Persons who submit statements should note that they may be called upon to appear in person before the Disciplinary/Grievance/ Dispute Resolution Committee of the GOC to give evidence or clarify matters in the statements submitted and may be examined.''

The Disciplinary/ Grievance/ Dispute Resolution Committee is expected to sit on July 23, 24 and 25, 2018 to hear from members of the federation, sports officials and the general public who are interested in providing relevant documents to the committee.
