The match was rained off last Sunday. When it was replayed yesterday, a ninth-minute own goal by Olympics captain Dan Quaye and Bright Adjei’s 38th-minute drive secured the win for the visitors, as Abel Manomey’s goal from a powerful shot in the second half only gave Olympics a false sense of hope but could not save them from defeat.

Aduana skipper Godfred Saka was sent off in the 32nd minute after a reckless challenge on Olympics attacker Douglas Mintah, leaving the visitors with the difficult task of playing with 10 men for the rest of the game.

In a quick counter-attack, Aduana striker Derrick Sasraku latched onto the ball from the right side of the field and sent a short pass to a lurking Elvis Opoku, but the pass was intercepted by the Olympics captain Dan Quaye and bounced awkwardly past his goalkeeper Abraham Odonkor into the net for an own goal.

Olympics desperately pushed for the equaliser and in the 32nd minute, defender Saka, keen to avert conceding a goal, lunged a double-footed tackle on Olympics’ Douglas Mintah and was given a straight red card by referee Kenny Padi.

The numerical disadvantage did not appear to have affected Aduana negatively as they increased the tally six minutes later after a clever interplay between Derrick Sasraku and Abdulrahman Fatau.  That move placed the ball in the way of Adjei, who shot past an advancing Abraham Odonkor to make it 2-0.

Olympics got their consolation in the 52nd minute after a two-man play between substitute Godwin Attram and Benjamin Arthur found unmarked Manomey in a good position to unleash a powerful shot into the net.
