Unibank, the official bank sponsoring the senior national football team, as part of its partnership with the Black Stars, has presented a cheque for $400,000 to the team.
The amount, which is the second tranche of a three- year sponsorship package of $1.2 million, was presented to the team at a specially organised soiree at Alisa Hotel ,aimed at motivating the team to beat their Ugandan opponents in their African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier in Kampala tomorrow.
The occasion also marked the first year anniversary of the relationship between Unibank and the Black Stars since the bank took over as the official sponsor.
The brief ceremony was graced by officials of Unibank, executive members of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the entire team of the Black Stars, and a cross section of the media.
The presentation of the cheque brings the total amount given to the Black Stars so far to $800,000 since they partnered the team last year .
Last year, the bank presented $400,000 to the Black Stars just before it participated in the World Cup in Brazil.
The Executive Director of Unibank, Mr. Owusu Ansah, in a brief remark described the Black Stars as a team full of history and a legacy to protect.
He said the bank was therefore, proud to associate itself with the team, and expressed the hope that the package would galvanise the players to offer their best and conquer the Cranes of Uganda.
Earlier, the vice president of the GFA, Mr Fred Crenstil, commended the bank for its gesture, saying it would urge the players on to go for the ultimate.
He further described the team’s relations with the bank as fruitful, and gave the assurance that they would work to sustain it.
For his part, the acting skipper of the Black Stars, Andre Dede Ayew, commended all stakeholders of the team, including the media, for their unflinching support and said the bank’s initiative would go a long way to inspire the team.
He, therefore, appealed to the soccer fraternity to support the team as they emplaned to Kampala for the kill.
